We are adding Repair and Repurpose to the classic Reduce, Reuse and Recycle phrase.
The DIY and maker ethic is about finding new uses for the things we have as well as repairing things that break. It’s about creating the self-sufficiency and confidence needed to try to make or fix what our minds imagine. The Maker ethic is about figuring it out, solving problems and learning from our mistakes and failures.
As our members grow, learn and practice new skills our hope is that tools will no longer be taboo and that calling the “repair man” or “buying a new one” will fade from standard practice. Sure, our attempts may not be as perfect as an expert’s, but in reality the thing that makes an expert special is LOTS of practice.
So we’ll practice.
…and try to make cool things while we’re learning and practicing.
